A Cooler Side of Posnack

When the temperature falls below 80 in Florida, all of a sudden, the sweatpants come out, blankets nest in the car, and Starbucks cups become the unofficial accessory of the fall. No more humidity and unbearable heat, and instead a bright sun surrounded by a cool breeze-as some people would say-the perfect weather.

At Posnack, it’s not just about weather; it’s a breath of fresh air after the start of a hard year and before midterms hit us. As a matter of fact, students will wait almost all year for weather like this. Most teachers lighten their workload, classes take place outside, and almost every kid is eating out in the courtyard. In other words, this isn’t just a time when the temperature drops, but a time when the school day feels less stressful, the hallways feel livelier, and being at school becomes something students actually look forward to.

To get students’ personal perspectives, we interviewed some of them. In fact, Zohar Benitah, an 11th-grade student, said, “I genuinely love when the weather gets like this. Even my classes feel more chill, and lunch is probably my favorite part of the day because we can actually sit outside and have the best conversations without worrying about the heat or humidity. It just makes the whole school day so much better.” In addition, Kayla Hoisman concurs with Zohar’s statement, adding that “it’s sunny but not ridiculously hot. Usually, the cafeteria is freezing and so loud, so being able to sit outside with my friends is such a nice change. Everything just feels more relaxed, and honestly, I wish the weather could stay like this all year.”
Therefore, as seen from a true student’s perspective, when the weather gets colder, the student spirit gets bolder.
Maybe Florida doesn’t get the traditional autumn everyone else talks about, but at Posnack, we make the most of what we get. And while we may spend the rest of the year complaining about the heat, for a few weeks, we get to enjoy something different. After all, the best part of fall isn’t the temperature itself, but how a little change in the weather can change the way we experience an entire school day.
